| Huntington State Beach, Magnolia Street Webcam Up and Running HSBLA After much delay, the webcam located at the Huntington State Beach Lifeguard Headquarters is now online. This project has been in the works since the beginning of summer 2006. HSBLA wanted to ensure it took the proper steps and went through the appropriate channels before completing the project. The webcam will provide both the guards and the public an invaluable tool. The guards will be able to utilize the compilation of surf forecasting resources on HSBLA's website, as well as the webcam to check the beach conditions before coming to work. The key to success is proper preparation. By knowing what the conditions are ahead of time, the guards can prepare themselves appropriately before coming to work. The public may also utilize the webcams to view the current beach cond- |
| itions and plan thier day appropriately. Everything from the beach crowds to current parking conditions could aid a park visitor in planning thier day. HSBLA's main motivation behind installing the cameras is for public education. Evironmental studies could also take place from the webcam images. The webcam images can be archived, and then a timelapse video produced over a specified interval of time. This timelapse video could show beach errosion among other scientific interests. In the near future, HSBLA hopes to install additional webcams when funding becomes available. "Ideally, we would like to have multiple cameras along Huntington and Bolsa Chica State Beaches", said HSBLA treasurer Craig Lumb. Lumb went on to state that, "public safety and education would be increased ten fold by the addition of the web cameras." HSBLA is looking for sponsorship to help with the funding of thier additional webcams. Sponsorship would entail purchasing of the webcams and potentially paying for monthly webcam service. HSBLA offers to place your companies banner on the webcam page of the HSBLA website in return. Email: admin@statelifeguards.com if interested in this sponsorship. HSBLA would also like to thank Computer Chief's Services for technical assistance during the webcam installation. Click here to goto the Magnolia Street Webcam page! |
